The Power of Positive Thinking
Optimism is defined as hopefulness, cheerfulness, confidence and assurance. We all know, that whether we are pregnant or not, life seems to go better with an optimistic attitude. With that being said, how does one go about having a cheerful attitude, filled with optimism, when it is so easy to stress over anything and everything.
We all know people that see the glass half empty. There are those, always sure that nothing good is every going to happen to them. Those folks are so busy concentrating on the thorns that they never see the beautiful roses. Those people are able to pull the most optimistic of us down. We recognize their influence on us, from just a casual comment. We feel a little less cheerful after a conversation with the pessimist. When we are pregnant, not only are we influenced but so are our unborn babies. Studies have shown that happier Mommy's produce happier babies.
Optimism is a choice. To go through our day with cheerfulness, confidence and assurance is an active, conscious, moment to moment decision. It has been said that if you know how to worry, then you know how to be optimistic. It is a matter of how you choose to nurture you mind. The thoughts you choose to dwell on, do expand and grow. When dwelling on any thought, doesn't it seem to get bigger? You have the ability to make positive, optimistic thoughts grow larger along with your belly. When you have an choice to think positively, you not only sooth yourself but your unborn baby as well. Thoughts are powerful and produce strong emotions that either calm or excite. Chemicals changes that accompany negative or positive thoughts are also felt by the unborn child. Expect happiness and you will find it.
Choose what you dwell on wisely. Don't be confused. Telling yourself "I'm sure I'll have morning sickness forever" or "I just know I'm going to gain too much weight" are not exercises in positive thinking! Optimism is essential to every achievement. The goal is a happy, healthy baby so celebrate the temporary morning sickness and the weight gain. Be confident that with each day these are signs that you are happily moving closer to your goal.
Optimism is essential for the health of your baby and for you. As you go through you day, expect happiness. When you have an optimistic attitude, the universe just seems to cooperate with your positive thoughts. Live expectantly and with optimism and you and your baby will reap the benefits of better physical and emotional health.
