Yippie!, you may yelp, your wife is pregnant. You are excited and yet it seems like your youth with all it's wild escapades was just yesterday. There will be days that you yearn for the freedom from all that impending responsibility. You may ponder what wisdom made you think an addition to your family was a good idea. But wait, when you see the results of your decisions you will never again ask why.

Remember when you wife gave you the wide eyed look, over a glass of wine and told you how she yearned to be a mommy and the moment you yielded and said yes. You thought it was a good idea, too. Yep, that's when it started, yielding your youthful notions, looking to the future and taking on the yoke of responsibility.

Now that you are a pregnant couple your wife will yowl and yammer about how wide-spread she is getting during her pregnancy, week by week and month by month. This is not the time for wisecracks, just encourage her to eat yams, yogurt and egg yolks and keep up her yoga. You may be wondering if you will still get help with the yard work and the answer will be an emphatic NO! Unless she wants to plant some yellow daffodils, youngberry and yucca. In that case, be ready with a hearty "yea, I can't wait to get started." Never show boredom with a yawn.

In the summer evenings you will sit in your yard, wondering what year your little youngster will graduate and what his friends will write in his yearbook, don't get ahead of yourself. You don't know if the little one has the Y chromosome that makes him a little boy. You must not yield to the temptation to buy that first football just yet. You may get the sex that is wired like your wife. The gender of your baby will be revealed in less than a year. Why work yourself up wondering. Wait for the test.

The yardstick by which to measure this upcoming event is to know that the time flies like the wind and youthful thoughts of a yacht and traveling off in the yonder are not so far away. Just delayed for a few years. Enjoy these precious moments, be there to wipe your wife's tears when necessary, take a wide path around your troubles, always answer yes and never wonder why.
